An away tie to 4th place side Aveley was a fantastic opportunity for Coggeshall to grab three points against some extremely difficult competition. With past fixtures always proving to be thrilling, the Seedgrowers were particularly eager to take points away from the South Essex side.

The match was set to be a contest from the beginning as an early penalty gave Aveley a chance to gain an early lead. Despite this, an extremely poor attempt meant the scoreline sat level after the ball was sent straight over the bar. It wasn’t long after that Coggeshall capitalised as a header sent towards the back post was snuck home by Tyler Brampton, which gave the full back his first goal of the season.

Shortly after a great attempt from Rob Harvey was deflected wide of the post, winning a corner for the Town. With few minutes left in the half, the Aveley forward is brought down in the box as yet another penalty was awarded to the home side. This time shot-stopper Ash Jones was sent into action as he was able to save the attempt, keeping an incredible record this season so far.

In what was one of the last plays of the half, the ball was sent the length of the field by Jones, as Harvey was able to meet the ball before tucking it cleanly over the goalkeepers head; an excellent finish that put the Seedgrowers two – nil up before half time.

HALF TIME: Aveley 0 – 2 Coggeshall

With the second half expected to be a challenge, both teams were up to take all three points with them as a hungry Aveley side seemed to want to bring back the scoreline. To add to the suspense, the home side got off to a flying start following the whistle, as just 7 minutes in they put the ball away to bring them back into the game.

Just minutes later a third penalty was awarded to Aveley as the forward broke through onto goal. Third time lucky clearly didn’t seem to go their way as a superb save from Ash Jones seemed to impress everyone in the ground, despite the disappointment of the home side.

A back and forth contest saw opportunities come and go for both sides as the contest proved to be a difficult for both defences, with no lack of attacking firepower from either club. A few promising chances came for Coggeshall as we looked to put the game to bed, and Aveley remained unable to equalise, let alone take three points from the Seedgrowers, with the boys seeing the game out till the final whistle.
