Match Report

We saw Coggeshall in bank holiday action last week as the Seedgrowers travelled to Sudbury for their third league game of the season. The boys started off very positively, making a number of forward efforts with close free kick chances from George Cocklin and some great runs from Jermaine Francis and Harry Critchley. Sudbury’s Joe Grimwood was later booked following a harsh tackle. Just short of half time, a fantastic run from Jermaine Francis saw him break away into a one-on-one against the goalkeeper. Sudbury’s shotstopper claimed the ball but appeared to wipe the winger out, leaving fans and players calling for a penalty kick. The referee waved these away just before the half time whistle blew.

Sudbury came into the second half reinvigorated as Cruis Nyadzayo struck the back of the net in the 55th minute. Coggeshall took to the bench as a triple substitution saw Ernest Okoh, Sam Bantick and Tyler Christian-Law replace Ethan Kessel, Harry Critchley and Jayden Gipson. Ross Wall was soon booked as he made an attacking challenge whilst pressing an opposition defender. Lewis O’Malley then doubled the home side’s lead in the 75th minute as Coggeshall searched for an essential comeback. Sudbury then took to the bench as they looked to see out the game, which was ultimately put to bed by Daniel Gilchrist who capitalised on a defensive error from the Seedgrower’s back line.
