Match Preview – Heybridge Swifts

Coggeshall Town go in to 2019 with a crunch match against their local neighbours and now potential play-off rivals, Heybridge Swifts. The SeedGrowers who have had an impressive start to life in the Isthmian League find themselves in third place in the league table,  one point behind Maldon & Tiptree in second place having played a game less than the Jammers. Bowers & Pitsea currently lead the division, eight points ahead of Coggeshall having also played one game more.

Heybridge on the other hand, sit in fifth place with thirty six points from eighteen games, one point less than the SeedGrowers. Swifts are six points clear of Bury Town who have played a game more as a clear gap has began to form between the sides sitting in the play-off positions and the ‘chasing pack’. Heybridge have undergone major changes this season, with a change in management, Julian Dicks has had a high turnover in players, but to their credit it has not disrupted their league form. Ex West Ham defender, Dicks has had a very impressive start as manager of Heybridge Swifts and will pose a real tough test for Graeme Smith’s side.

Unlike Coggeshall, Heybridge did have a match on Boxing Day which was against their nearest rivals, Maldon. Heybridge escaped the fixture with a share of the points, after Matthew Price converted a penalty kick in the ninetieth minute. The SeedGrowers will have some familiar faces to Heybridge supporters within their ranks, with Sam Bantick and Danny Sambridge arriving at West Street this season from Scraley Road, the home of Heybridge Swifts. Midfielder, George Cocklin has also appeared for Heybridge in years gone by and was influential in them avoiding relegation just a few seasons ago. There will also be a special return to West Street for former SeedGrowers captain, Luke Wilson. After leading Coggeshall to becoming league champions last season, ‘Willo’ left the club earlier this season to join up with Heybridge – everyone at the club looks forward to welcoming Luke back to the club.
