Match Report

Last Saturday’s Essex Senior Cup tie saw the Seedgrowers take on Waltham Abbey at home. Despite beating then previously in a pre-season friendly, Waltham looked strong and determined to progress to the next round.

The game was by no means slow as a third minute finish from Waltham’s Leonne McKenzie forced Coggeshall to catch up almost immediately. It took the Town a few minutes to get into the swing of things with some fantastic passing football resulting into the chance going over the crossbar.

Twenty-six minutes in David Agboola had to be brought on after Jayden Gipson suffered an injury. The Seedgrowers pushed on and a fantastic strike from Rob Harvey was sent just wide. Coggeshall were coming ever closer to a goal as the ball was cleared off the goal line.

Some fantastic play from Coggeshall began a succession of opportunities to arise, with a close chance being stopped by a slide tackle from the Abbey defender. Soon after Tevan Allen is pulled down just outside the box and the referee has no choice but to book the offender. Following the foul Tev send a fantastic ball into the box but the goalkeeper was quick of his mark to stop the play.

HALF TIME: Coggeshall 0 – 1 Waltham Abbey

Waltham were quick off the mark again after scoring a fiftieth minute goal past the Town. A half time substitution that saw George Cocklin come off for Jack Simmons brought some fresh legs on, following a superb display from the midfielder. Another injury saw Tyler Brampton brought off to make way for Jamie Dobkin.

A stream if corners for Coggeshall proved fruitless as Hubble sent the ball wide of the post. Two substitutions from Waltham were made as they looked to draw the game to an early close. Another magnificent chance for the Town was once again denied by the goalkeeper.

A seventy-ninth minute strike from Rob Harvey put the Seedgrowers straight back into the race as he snuck the ball round the goalkeeper, a fantastic shot. With not long left Harvey is dragged to the floor in the box but the ref sees no problem with the challenge. With not long left Gorbell sent a powerful header towards the goal, forcing the goalkeeper to make yet another diving save.
