Match Report

Dereham Town v Coggeshall Town. 11th January 2020

Coggeshall arrived at Dereham hoping for a result against the team that has now become their bogie side. With Nnamdi Nwachuku re-joining the Town from Marlow Town, Town made a lively start and won a penalty in the fourth minute when Jack Simmonds fouled in the box. Joe Claridge elected to take the spot kick and keep his 100% penalty record intact. However, Dereham keeper Elliot Pride guessed correctly to make his first save of the match. Derehams wingers were starting to cause problems for the Town and in the seventh minute, Adam Smith gave them the lead after Town had failed to clear their lines. From their next attack on nine minutes, Adam Hipperson was fouled in the box as he gained possession. Hipperson confidently dispatched the resultant penalty to extend Dereham’s lead. As the fast-paced opening continued Coggeshall pulled a goal back in the fourteenth minute, with Nnamdi Nwachuku slotting home Jack Simmons low centre from the left. On twenty-three minutes the Dereham number nine, Hilliard caught Ross Wall with a very poor challenge. Both the Town fans and Dereham fans that I spoke to thought it was a definite sending off, but the Referee chose only to give out a Yellow card. Ross needed some attention from the Town Physio before the game could continue. Play remained open and Pride made his second excellent save as he palmed away Kieran Bailey’s 20 yarder.  In the twenty seventh minute, again attacking down the Town’s left, Dereham’s Toby Hilliard, who was very lucky to still be on the field was on hand to turn a in a well-placed cross from close range and restore the Magpies two goal cushion. Dereham were causing Coggeshall problems down both flanks with the pace of Hipperson and Logan. There were no more clear-cut chances with defences remaining on top. One the stroke of half time Jayden Gipson had to leave the field after treatment on what looked a serious ankle injury. Ethan Kessel replaced him.                                                Graeme Smith was going to need an inspirational Half time talk turn around Derehams three goals to one lead.

HALF TIME: Dereham Town 3 – 1 Coggeshall Town

As in the first half Coggeshall made an impressive start, Jack Simmons found some space through the centre of the home defence but ballooned his shot wide when well placed. Next, the dangerous Hipperson cut in from the left before striking a low drive Ashlee Jones saved well. Dereham were still giving Town problems down the flanks as they attacked on the break. The game’s pace was showing no sign of abating and Magpies defender Tom Matthews made a fine block to deny Pollard in the 55th minute. Town were now playing with increase purpose and forcing Dereham to defend in numbers. Pride made two more crucial saves within the space of a minute to keep the score at three one. He then leapt to tip Ross Wall’s curler over the top before claiming the resultant corner. Next Hilliard was clear through but he failed to beat Ashlee Jones in a one on one.  Dereham added a fourth in the 75th minute when Robbie Linford headed home Hilliard’s flick on following Rhys Logan’s corner which Jones failed to clear.   Ashlee then made two saves in quick succession, one from Logan’s 20 yarder and the other from Snapkauskas’s header as the home side had spell of pressure. There were no more clear-cut chances as the game ended. The second half performance showed a great improvement by the Town and although Dereham ended the match with an impressive four one-score line, it took a man of the match performance with six great saves from their goalkeeper and captain Elliot Pride to ensure the victory.
