Match Report

With two games to go before the playoffs, Coggeshall Town looked in impressive form after their 2-1 victory over Felixstowe and Walton on Saturday.

An outstanding over-head kick by Coggeshall’s, Tevan Allen saw the game’s score sheet start with a cracker, unfortunately for the home side the visitors equalised with six minutes to go before the end of the first half. Yet, Felixstowe and Walton could not hold onto their equaliser for long, as before you knew it Coggeshall hit back with a goal by Nnamdi Nwachuku just three minutes later. The second half saw the visitors go down to ten men after their No.2 , Callum Bennett was unable to keep his cool, and after receiving his second yellow was sent off with just five minutes to go.

The first twenty minutes saw a strong performance by the Seed Growers, with various chances being created and a strong hold on possession. The first goal came from an advantage play by the Referee after a foul on Ross Wall, Nwachuku kept the play alive and with a great cross, which found Tevan Allen in the penalty box. A quick flick up with enough height was a perfect self-made set-up for Allen to produce an impressive over-head kick to give the home side an early lead.

Felixstowe looked to hit back when Henry Barley managed to get a cross in for teammate Jordan Matthews who was waiting in the penalty box, sadly for the No.7 he was only able to find the feet of a Coggeshall player.

The visitors continued to press, a long ball made by their captain, Rhys Barber in hope of finding the run of striker Liam Hillyard was instead found by Coggeshall Captain Tyler Corlett who was able to read and deal with situation with ease, keeping Felixstowe at bay for a little longer.

Yet, with six minutes left to go of the first half, Felixstowe were finally able to carve out an equaliser. Hillyard squared the ball to Henry Barley who blasted the ball into the roof of the net.

However, Coggeshall Town were determined not to finish the first half on equal standing. A foul by Felixstowe saw a free kick awarded with just three-minutes left to play. Conor Hubble’s delivery into the box created panic as the ball bounced scrappily on the floor, only to find the cool-head of Nwachuku on the far right who was able to poke the ball past the goal line, making it the young striker’s 25th goal of the season.

Teven Allen also had an opportunity right on the cusp of halftime, although was unable to keep his effort down below the crossbar.

HALF TIME: Coggeshall Town 2-1 Felixstowe & Walton

The second half brought more chances, but all were close calls as neither team could put one in the back of the net.
One opportunity by Nwachuku could have increased his score-tally for the season to 26. A quick break by Coggeshall saw the No.9 go one on one with the Felixstowe goalkeeper, the play had forced the goalkeeper to come off his line, regrettably Nwachuku was unaware of the time and space he had and took his shot early, in an effort to chip it over, the shot ended up going wide.

With only five-minutes left to go, more drama occurred. Felixstowe’s Callum Bennett received his second yellow card of the game and was inevitably sent off. His first yellow came from arguing and back chatting the referee, Karl Sear.

At the end of a scrappy second half, the game finished 2-1 to Coggeshall Town, an important three points at home for the Seed Growers ahead of the playoffs and their away game against Heybridge Swifts on Easter Monday.

Good luck to the boys in hope they can retain their winning-streak and return home from Heybridge with the three points.
