Match Report

The SeedGrowers looked to make it five wins in a row with manager, Graeme Smith freshening up his side with several changes after last weeks win over Mildenhall Town. The Town certainly put in a shift to continue their unbeaten run against a hard-working Barking side, however the SeedGrowers notched three goals from three separate goalscorers, whilst recording their fifth clean sheet in just six games.

Coggeshall got off to a quick start when just short of ten minutes, Tevan Allen sent the ball just past the goalkeeper to secure the games  opening goal, largely thanks to a superb counter attack which involved Ross Wall and Nnamdi Nwachuku who eventually provided Allen with the assist for his goal. Coggeshall continued to attack their hosts, as back and forth play began to develop, a few chances came and went as Barking were able to clear their lines regularly, with Coggeshall dominating the match in terms of attacking threat and overall possession.

HALF TIME: Barking 0 – 1 Coggeshall Town

The second half began a few minutes late, but it did not take late for promising chances to appear for Coggeshall which were questionably ruled offside by the assistant referee. It wasn’t long till Coggeshall extended their lead, as Nwachuku saw his initial effort saved, his second effort was sent curling to the top corner on his apparent, weaker left foot from the edge of the box. Barking pushed on despite the scoreline, seeing them through to the final third, but without any luck of a goal, as Coggeshall’s defence superbly removed any threat opposed by Barking’s forwards. Following their resolute defensive display, the SeedGrowers pushed forward and created several chances, but just like Barking, had no further luck in front of goal.

Shortly after, Barking’s most promising chance of the afternoon soon came and went as a cross travelled across the penalty area box, but once again failed to reach the back of the net as no one was on hand to score their opening goal. As the Town tried to manage the game towards the final whistle, they made three substitutions in quick succession, with Michael Gyasi, George Cocklin & Nwachuku making room for Aryton Coley, Joshua Pollard & AceHowell. Barking once again had a fantastic opportunity to scrape a goal back, however substitute Pollard was on hand as he cleared a goal-bound ball off the line.

With few minutes left of the match, midfielder, Conor Hubble sent a free kick whistling past everyone and in to the back of the net from 30 yards out. Hubble’s eye catching strike hit the back of the net after it dipped straight into the bottom corner. With some fruitless back and forth play for the last few minutes, the match came to a close as a strong Coggeshall performance saw them record their fifth straight win in the Bostik Division One North.
