Match Report

Coggeshall Town secured a point away at Stowmarket but probably felt that they should have picked up all three in a game which was hardly a classic. With the top two playing each other it was always going to be a tight game with neither team wanting to lose. The pitch conditions at Stowmarket were dreadful with the surface very uneven and heavy underfoot which was always going to make it a tough place to play. Coggeshall had to make several changes to their lineup from the previous week due to injury but still managed to start the game well.

The first half was very even with not much goal action at either end, ” The Town ” came closest on a couple of occasions to going ahead through Tyrone Scarlett and Nnamdi Nwachuku who both went close from distance. Coggeshall were looking very solid at the back with both Josh Dalziel and Sean Radley keeping Stowmarket out at the centre of the Coggeshall defence. Both teams were working hard but the poor pitch condition was making it hard for both teams to get any sort of flow to their game. The match reached the half-time point with neither side managing to break the deadlock.

The second half got underway with ” The Town” looking far more likely to make the breakthrough with their midfield three of Tom Colville, Luke Clark and the excellent George Cocklin starting to dictate the play. The away team were getting closer to scoring with Scarlett again going close and Edilson Cruz also bringing a good save from the home team keeper. As the hour mark approached Stowmarket appeared to tire as Coggeshall were looking dangerous as the home team offered very little going forward, in fact it looked like they had settled for a draw. Nwachuku was sent through after a good ball from Cocklin but he dragged his shot wide and Colville also went close with a shot from outside the box but Coggeshall just could not break through. Things took a turn for the worse for ” The Town” on 75 mins when they were reduced to 10 men after Nwachuku was harshly sent off which meant they had to finish that last 15 minutes one man down. Stowmarket couldn’t take the advantage of the extra man and it was Coggeshall who still looked more likely to score even though they were a man short. Jordan Palmer and Edilson Cruz both had half chances to score in the final minutes but neither could find the net making the score 0-0 at the final whistle. Coggeshall will be satisfied with the away point at a team directly below them in the league but will think if there was going to be a winner on the day they should have just about edged it especially as keeper Matt Walker didn’t have a save to make during the whole 90 mins.

There wasn’t many standout performances due to the pitch but George Cocklin showed his quality in midfield all afternoon and the whole back four played well to keep Stowmarket very quiet all game. The team are on the road Tuesday night at Ipswich Wanderers in the League Challenge Cup then return to West Street next Saturday when Whitton United are the visitors.

The Club would again like to thank the many supporters who made the trip to Stowmarket on Saturday your support is greatly appreciated.
