Match Report

Coggeshall Town put in one of their best performances of the season to overcome a strong Histon team.On a cold but bright day at West Street conditions were again excellent as the match got underway. The early exchanges were even with both teams working hard to try and gain an early advantage. It was a competitive start with plenty of crunching tackles going in. Coggeshall struck first though after 20 minutes following a period of good possession, Conor Hubble delivered a great ball into the box Ross Wall headed home after losing his marker to put “ The Town “ one up and to keep up his fine run of goalscoring. Coggeshall started to get the better of things in the remainder of the first half and double their advantage before half-time, this time Tom Monk delivered a great ball to Aaron Cosgrave scored with an excellent looping shot from just outside the box. The home team saw out the rest of the first half quite comfortably to go in 2-0 in front at the break.

The second half had a very similar look to the first with Histon coming out strong in the early stages but Coggeshall soon gaining control as the minutes passed. The visitors were pushing forward trying to get back into the game but left themselves open at the back for Kamal Guthmy to break away down the left hand side and cross for Tom Monk to finish well from close range to make the score 3-0. The third goal effectively wrapped up the points for “ The Town “ as they played out the remaining minutes in style and even had time for a fourth goal from Edilson Cruz who ran through on goal to score with a tremendous finish. This was a real all-round team performance and will go down as one of the best displays of the season so far.

The win leaves the team in good shape as they head into a tough looking Christmas period starting Saturday away at Gorleston.
