Match Report

Coggeshall Town moved into the quarter-finals of the League Challenge Cup after a hard fought win against Newmarket. On a very cold night at West Street Coggeshall made several changes to their lineup from the weekends game. The first half was end to end with both teams having good spells of possession. Newmarket went ahead on 30 mins after a defence lapse in the Coggeshall defence allowed the visitors to score from close range after Matt Walker had kept the original effort out with a fine save. The Home team tried hard to get back into the match but could not even things up before the half-time whistle sounded.

The second half started at a fast pace with both teams looking to score the all-important second goal.  Their was chances at both ends before “ The Town “ finally got back on level terms. The goal came from debutant Tyler Brampton who cut in from the right hand side to score from a tight angle. Coggeshall went ahead with 10 minutes remaining after a sustained period of pressure led to them being awarded a penalty which skipper Luke Wilson slotted Home nicely. Coggeshall wrapped things up with a third late on after some great work from Ross Wall allowed Tom Monk to finish from close range to put the result beyond doubt.
It was a tremendous performance against a tough Newmarket team and puts “ The Town “ in the next round.
