Match Report

Coggeshall Town strengthened their grip on second spot in the league with a solid 3-0 victory away at Ipswich Wanderers. With one or two influential players missing through injury there was changes to the starting eleven with new signing Curtis Haynes-Brown also coming in for his debut for the club. On a bright and sunny day pitch conditions were horrendous, a patchy uneven surface it didn’t look like attractive football was going to be easy play. Coggeshall started well and looked very comfortable at the back while dominating the early possession. It wasn’t long before the visitors broke the deadlock after a long ball forward was partially cleared by an Ipswich defender to Tyler Brampton who delivered a ball into the box that the in-form Tom Monk brought down with his chest to turn and fire home from 12 yards out. Coggeshall continued to have all the play with Ipswich rarely venturing into their half, “ The Town “ were creating plenty of chances but the Ipswich keeper was performing well to keep the score to one. As the half time whistle went Coggeshall went in with just a one goal lead even though they had created numerous more chances.

Coggeshall came flying out the blocks in the second half scoring goal number two within the first 5 minutes of the restart. Tom Monk was again the scorer this time being put through from a ball forward from Conor Hubble, Monk got past his defender to fire home in off the far post with an excellent strike. Coggeshall were in total control now and it was only the Ipswich keeper making several excellent saves that kept the score  at 2-0 until 10 minutes from time. The third and final goal came from Ross Wall who finished well from just inside the box after some good work out wide from Aaron Cosgrave. That goal completed the scoring giving “ The Town “ a well earned 3 points away from home in tough conditions. This week Coggeshall are in midweek action on Wednesday night when they make the short trip to Wivenhoe.
