Match Report

Coggeshall Town fell to their second defeat in a week after loosing away at Framlingham on Saturday. “The Town” conceded in the first minute of the game after a total lapse of concentration which allowed a Framlingham player to score from close range to take a early lead. After going behind so early it looked like it could be a tough afternoon ahead for the league leaders. Coggeshall soon got into there stride though and after things settled down they looked the more comfortable of the two teams. The home team looked dangerous going forward but Coggeshall looked more than capable of equalising. “The Town” went close on one or two occasions during the first half with Shamido Pedulu hitting the crossbar after a great turn and shot and Tom Monk also went close after being put through by Matt Southwell. But it was the home team who extended there lead before half time again with some poor defending from Coggeshall allowing the Framlingham player a simple finish.

As the half time whistle went Framlingham went in with a 2-0 lead which they probably just about deserved as Coggeshall hadn’t really got started in the first half with too many basic mistakes in there play. The Second half got underway with Coggeshall looking far more interested showing a greater desire to get back into the game and it wasn’t long before the chances started to come. Monk and Pedulu both went close again but ” The Town” just couldn’t break through the stubborn Framlingham defence. As the match approached the hour mark Coggeshall were really on top and pulled one back after a nice through ball from George Cocklin sent Tom Monk beyond the home team’s backline to loft the ball over the advancing keeper with a excellent finish to put Coggeshall back in the game. The team continued to press for a equaliser right to the end but just could not manage to convert one of the many chances they created, Jordan Palmer going closest but his shot just went wide of the far post.

At the final whistle Coggeshall were left counting the cost for a poor start to the game and failing to capitalise on the amount of possession they had in the second half ending up with there second defeat of the season. The team are back at West Street Friday night when Braintree Town Reserves are the visitors for a 7.45pm kickoff in the first match under the clubs new floodlights.
