Coggeshall Town secured 2nd place in the Thurlow Nunn League Division One with a great performance away at Diss Town. The Seed Growers only needed one point but managed to leave Diss with all three even after playing the last 30 minutes with 10 ten men after a sending off.

The game got underway with Coggeshall getting straight on the front foot ripping the Diss defence apart in the early stages creating many openings, the best of which fell to Darren Mills who probably should have scored from close range after some excellent build up play. The home team were really struggling to keep pace with ” The Town ” who were looking likely to open the scoring every time they attacked.More chances came with Nnamdi Nwachuku and Kamal Guthmy both testing the keeper but Coggeshall just couldn’t break the deadlock. The visitors managed to get their noses in front on the half-hour through Nwachuku, he received the ball around 30 yards out from goal and ran at the Diss defence who backed off which allowed him to bend a nice shot into the far corner from the edge of the box. It was just what Coggeshall deserved having completely dominated the early stages of the match. The game carried on in similar pattern up to half time with Diss only venturing into the Coggeshall half on a few occasions and rarely threatening. The second half began with Coggeshall looking to increase their

The second half began with Coggeshall looking to increase their lead, with the impressive George Cocklin and Henri Okosi bossing the midfield area and Liam Thomas and Josh Dalziel looking solid at the back. On 70 minutes Coggeshall made a change replacing the hard working Darren Mills with Tom Monk who is still on the comeback trail after a long layoff. Monk immediately made an impression running at the Diss defenders causing them all sorts of problems. It wasn’t long before Monk got the wrong side of the Diss backline and was pulled down in the box giving the referee no option but to award a penalty. Nnamdi Nwachuku stepped up to confidently slot the spot kick home to seal the three points. Coggeshall had to see out the remainder of the match with 10 men as Shortly after the second goal George Cocklin was harshly sent off. Even with a man down ” The Town ” still continued to take the game to their opponents and could have added a third late on through Tyrone Scarlett who went close from distance.

The final whistle went which confirmed the team’s position as runners-up in the division at the first attempt which is a tremendous achievement for the whole squad and management team. The club would like to again thank the many supporters who travelled to Diss to give the team their support it has been tremendous home and away all season. The club will now look forward to the new challenge of competing in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division for the first time in the clubs history.
