Match Report

Coggeshall travelled to Debenham to try and keep up their unbeaten run so far this season, on arrival it was clear it was going to be a tough afternoons work with a pitch conditions absolutely appalling and a strong wind blowing right down the pitch.

The game got underway with Coggeshall attacking with the wind at there backs and they soon got into their stride putting the home team under pressure. It was never going to be a game of high quality as the pitch was so dry and bumpy making it difficult to play any sort of football let alone “The Town’s” normal passing style. Coggeshall were pushing hard from the start and won a succession of corners as the home side struggled to compete. It was from one of these corners Coggeshall went ahead, George Cocklin supplied the corner and Nnamdi Nwachuku headed in unchallenged at the far post for a deserved lead. It was frustrating for Coggeshall as the pitch conditions were making it hard to get any sort of rhythm to there play but they kept working hard and goal number two soon came along. The second goal came from the left hand side with Tom Monk taking on two Debenham defenders before playing it into Nwachuku who turned and fired into the far corner from just inside the box with a excellent strike for his and “The Towns ” second of the game. Coggeshall continued to dominate with George Cocklin playing a important role in the away teams midfield and Jon Slater in good form at the back. But it was Nwachuku who was the real danger as the Debenham defenders were struggling to contain him, he went on to score his third from close range again Monk was the provider. That made it 3-0 and that was how it stayed until half time.

The second half began with Coggeshall now kicking into the strong wind but they looked pretty comfortable with the three goal advantage. They had further opportunities to score with Shamido Pedulu and Edilson Cruz both going close but they could not find a finish. Debenham pulled one back mid way through the second half but the result was never in doubt and although Coggeshall didn’t score more they were always in control. The final whistle went with ” The Town” securing a good 3-1 away win at a place that many teams may struggle at this season purely because the playing surface is so poor. It certainly wasn’t a classic game to watch but Coggeshall worked extremely hard to grind out the win and a hatrick from Nwachuku was the obvious highlight.

The team are on the road again Tuesday night in league cup action at Stowmarket and then return to West Street on Saturday when Dereham are the visitors.
