Coggeshall Town finished off their home games for this season in style with a tremendous 9-0 win against Needham Market, this result keeps alive a slim chance that the team can still win the league or at least finish runners-up. A good crowd was in attendance once again at West Street as the team’s took to the field. It was a very youthful looking Needham Market team that kicked off looking to dent ” The Towns ” title ambitions. The visitors started well playing some attractive football but Coggeshall looked far stronger and it didn’t take long for them to start dominating the play. Coggeshall’s pace across the frontline from Nnamdi Nwachuku and Tyrone Scarlett was looking like it was going to be a problem for Needham all game, with Tom Monk and Kamal Guthmy also looking dangerous out wide. The home team were creating chances with Nwachuku and Monk both forcing saves from the Needham keeper but it needed a defender to break the deadlock. Some good play from Monk and George Cocklin ended with the ball falling to Jamie Shaw 30 yards out who travelled forward past a Needham defender and let fly with an excellent shot from 20 yards out which flew past the keeper into the bottom corner to give ” The Town ” the lead. Coggeshall extended that lead minutes later after Tom Monk headed home at the far post after a George Cocklin corner. Monk added his second and Coggeshall’s third soon after with a nice finish after being put through by Tyrone Scarlett. Monk was putting in a great performance after returning to the starting line up after a long layoff and nearly completed his hat-trick after a shot from distance came back of the crossbar with the Needham keeper beaten. No further goals were added in the first half and the home team went in 3 goals up at the break with Needham offering little at the other end.

Coggeshall started the second half very well and added two more quick goals early on both from Nnamdi Nwachuku who was now terrorising the Needham defenders to make the score 5-0.Some of Coggeshall’s play was a delight to watch now as they were playing with real confidence and it looked likely more goals would follow. Some great work out wide from Kamal Guthmy led to goal number six with the excellent Tyrone Scarlett finishing nicely from close range.Scarlett was replaced by Olly Murs after his goal and Murs got straight into the action going close from distance but the Needham keeper kept the shot out. Goal number seven came after Guthmy dribbled through to round the keeper and finish well still with 15 minutes to play. Needham had no answers now to Coggeshall’s firepower and a goal looked likely every time they went forward. The impressive Murs was starting to have a real influence on the game and created the eighth goal after some great hold up play he beat his defender and crossed for Aaron Cosgrove to finish for his second goal for the club since his move from Colchester United. The ninth and final goal of the afternoon came from the penalty spot after Cosgrove was fouled in the box when he looked likely to score, the ball was picked up by Olly Murs who confidently slotted the spot kick home into the bottom corner to complete the scoring. It was a great performance from Coggeshall who now because of other results around them have a second place finish in their own hands if they can get a point at Diss next week, and can still win the title if Stowmarket were to loose against Sudbury and they gain all 3 points in their last fixture.

The team will go to Diss next week in confident mood as they have put in some very good performances in the last few weeks.
