Coggeshall Town booked their place in the League Cup semi-final with a hard fought win over neighbours Halstead Town. On a crisp evening, the West Street pitch again looked in great condition as the two teams took to the field. As the match got underway it was the visitors who made the brighter start as Coggeshall came out the blocks a bit slow. After the opening ex-changes it was ” The Town ” who started to get the better of things as they started to dominate possession. Although the home team were having the better of things they failed to create many clear cut chances with the Halstead defence holding firm.Their was nothing Halstead could do on 30 mins though after Tyrone Scarlett let fly from 25 Yards out to score with a tremendous strike to give Coggeshall a 1-0 lead. After the goal went in Coggeshall really started to create some good opportunities but found the Halstead keeper in fine form, as he made several good saves to keep his team in it at the break with Coggeshall going in with a slender one goal advantage.

The second half started similar to the first with Halstead starting better but without really threatening the Coggeshall Goal.” The Town ” got back in control soon after and went close to scoring again through Jamie Shaw and Tom Monk but again the Halstead keeper denied them. Halstead nearly equalised at the midway point in the second half but Liam Thomas cleared off the line well to deny the away team a way back into the game. Coggeshall nearly extended their league after an effort from Danny Scott beat the keeper but cannoned back off the crossbar to safety. The second goal finally came with 10 mins to go after some great build up play involving many players ended up with Tom Colville scoring his first goal for the club with a fine strike from distance. This goal pretty much sealed the victory for Coggeshall who were content to play the rest of the game out by just keeping possession. As the final whistle went the home team were pleased to have progressed into the semi final against a much improved Halstead team. The team are back at home Saturday when Debenham are the visitors to West Street.
