Match Report

Coggeshall Town continued their fine start to the season with another win at West Street against Godmanchester Rovers. The game got underway with experienced keeper Darren Behcet making his debut for the club between the posts, the only other change to the starting lineup was Tom Monk replacing Jamie Shaw in the Coggeshall frontline. The West Street pitch was looking in tremendous shape as Coggeshall went straight on the attack looking to gain a early advantage.

The match started off at a fast pace with lots of endeavour from both teams but the quality was lacking. As the half progressed it was ” The Town ” who started to get the better of things and look most likely to score. The home team created several opening with Nnamdi Nwachuku going close after a excellent run and shot and Tom Monk hitting the post after breaking through the Godmanchester defence. Coggeshall continued to press and eventually took the lead on 30 minutes after a long diagonal pass from Jacob Partridge released Josce Syrett down the right flank, Syrett beat his man and cut inside and cross to Correy Davidson who fired home a great shot from just inside the box. It was only what ” The Town ” deserved after having the bulk of the possession for most of the half. The home team continued to search for goals and again went close through a header from skipper Luke Wilson and a freekick from 18 yards out from Conor Hubble. At this point Godmanchester were hanging on a bit trying not to concede a second whilst offering little at the other end in the way of a attacking threat. Just before the half time whistle the visitors had their best chance but Behcet was equal to it saving well low down to his left to keep the score 1-0 at the break.

The second half started in a similar way to the first with both teams putting in lots of effort but Coggeshall looked like they had more quality about their play. Coggeshall’s attacking play was causing a real problem for Godmanchester with Kamal Guthmy having a real influence on the game as it went on.At the other end ” The Town ” looked very solid with Sam West putting in a great performance alongside Jacob Partridge and skipper Wilson who again went close from a header after a great delivery from a corner from Correy Davidson. The chances kept coming with Davidson hitting the post after a great run and shot and Tom Colville also going close from distance. The second goal finally came on the hour after some nice build up play from Colville and Guthmy ended up with Davidson crossing into the box where Conor Hubble was on hand to head home at the far post. The tempo of the game dropped after the second goal with Coggeshall content to see the game out keeping a clean sheet.

The final whistle sounded meaning Coggeshall recorded their third straight win of the season in quite comfortable fashion against a competitive Godmanchester team. The matches  come thick and fast now with the team back in action on Friday night when they visit Brantham Athletic  who have also made a good start to the season and are sure to be the team’s toughest test so far this season.
