Match Report

Coggeshall Town started life in the Eastern Counties league by gaining a point at home to March Town but we’re very disappointed not to have taken all three. On a very hot day the game started at a reasonable tempo with ” The Town ” soon getting into there stride after a even start to the match. It wasn’t long before they took control and started to create some decent opportunities. As the half went on Coggeshall got closer and closer to breaking the deadlock but just failed to convert one of the many chances they created. The best of there efforts on goal came from Kane Dobrowlski who after a great run down the left wing cut inside to shoot across the keeper but his effort unfortunately hit the post and bounced out. Jordan Palmer narrowly headed wide from a Tom Monk Cross and Monk himself also shot wide on two occasions after breaking forward from midfield. It was turning into a frustrating half as the home team had dominated possession and created many chances but had failed to take them leaving the scores level at half time.

The second half carried on much the same as the first half with March Town really hanging on in the game and offering very little at the other end. Coggeshall continued to press for the first goal while looking very comfortable at the back with Nico Farthing and Jon Slater looking very solid at the heart of the defence. The breakthrough eventually came on the hour after Danny Scott released Tom Monk with a great pass down the right hand side and Monk broke forward getting away from the March defenders to finish with a shot inside the near post to give “The Town ” a deserved lead. Disaster struck less than two minutes later though as March equalised with there first effort on goal after some poor defending allowed March to score from close range after a fortunate misplaced pass found its way into the Coggeshall penalty box. Coggeshall had paid the price for switching off after going ahead themselves which was very disappointing as the visitors would have felt lucky to be level after being outplayed for large parts of the game. This gave March something to fight for and their performance improved for the rest of the second half, but it was Coggeshall who still kept missing chance after chance to win the game. Substitute Edilson Cruz went through one on one with the keeper but failed to convert and Nnamdi Nwachuku had two great chances to put ” The Town ” back in front but he couldn’t find the net either. As the game came to a end with the scores level it definitely felt like two points dropped rather than one gained as in truth it should have been a comfortable victory for Coggeshall in there first game at the new level.

The team travel to Sudbury Tuesday night for there next fixture which will be a very tough game.
