Match Report

Coggeshall Town had a frustrating afternoon against Debenham only pick up one point when it should have really been all three.Coggeshall went into the game in fine form and on paper it looked like it would have been a home win but a dogged performance from Debenham ended up with the points being shared. “The Town” started the match very well pushing Debenham back right from the start and dominating possession. As the half went on Coggeshall started to create many chances with Tyrone Scarlett,  Tom Colville and Jamie Shaw all going close, but a mixture of good goalkeeping and poor finishing kept the score level. Coggeshall continued to dominate the play with Josce Syrett in fine form for the home side looking dangerous every time he was in possession. It was Syrett who created the opening for Coggeshall to take the lead after a good run and cross found Tyrone Scarlett at the near post where he finished well to keep up his recent good goal scoring record. The goal had been a long time coming but was well deserved as the home team had been in total control with Debenham rarely venturing into the Coggeshall half. As half time approached out of now where Debenham equalised after some poor defending allowed them to score making the score level 1-1 T the break.

The second half got underway in exactly the same way as the first with ” The Town ” having all the play and chances but not being able to force another goal. Matt Walker in the Coggeshall goal was a virtual spectator in the second half as Debenham defended for their lives to prevent Coggeshall scoring again. Tom Monk had the ball in the net for league leaders but it was disallowed for a dubious hand ball decision. Then George Cocklin had a shot that came back off the cross bar and Tom Holdstock also went close hitting the post from close range. Coggeshall pressed and pressed for the whole of the second 45 mins but just could not score again.

Credit to Debenham who defended well for the whole game to keep the normal free scoring Coggeshall out. As the final whistle went the home team felt disappointed as it really was two points dropped because on the balance of play and chances created they should have won comfortably.

Coggeshall have the chance to get back to winning ways next week away at much improved Whitton Utd who are sure to offer a stern test.
