Match Report

Coggeshall Town recorded another great victory over Dereham to maintain there excellent start to the season. Conditions at West Street were good and the early morning rain showers had left the playing surface in slick condition.

The game got underway with Dereham lining up with what looked like quite a inexperienced team and Coggeshall made two or three changes from there win at Stowmarket in midweek. The home team made the better start and soon started moving the ball round nicely and were looking a threat right from the off. Both wide players Edilson Cruz and Tom Monk were getting a lot of joy down the flanks and Namdi Nwachuku was looking menacing through the middle. Dereham ventured forward on one or two occasions but never threatened Stefano De Felice in ” The Town ” goal. Coggeshall went ahead on the 20 minute mark when some nice play between George Cocklin and Shamido Pedulu ended with Cocklin playing Nwachuku through who rounded the keeper to score to give the home team a deserved lead. Coggeshall really started to dominate things now and goal number two soon followed after Edilson Cruz got free inside the box to finish well to score his first goal for the club. Minutes later number three went in after a tremendous run from Shamido Pedulu from inside his own half set Tom Monk away down the right hand side, Monk got past the last defender and shot into the far corner with a excellent strike to keep up his recent good run of goal scoring form. It was a real rapid fire 10 minute spell which was finished off when Nwachuku again scored for his 19th goal of the season and “The Town’s” fourth on the day which really settled the match as it looked a very long way back for the Young Dereham team who had now answers to Coggeshall’s attacking threat.

The half time whistle went with Coggeshall looking very comfortable with a 4-0 lead at the break. With the result in no doubt the second half began at quite a sluggish tempo with the home team quite content to keep possession although they still created several chances with Cruz going close again and Pedulu bringing a couple of good saves from the Dereham keeper. There was no further goals until the last minute when Substitute Toby Blanche opened his account for the season with a neat finish after some good build up play.

The match ended 5-0 with Coggeshall pleased to rack up a few more goals and keep another clean sheet whilst securing another 3 points.Stand out performers on the day were Edilson Cruz who is improving with every game and Shamido Pedulu who worked extremely hard for the whole 90 minutes.

The team are in league action again on Tuesday night when they visit Haverhill in what could be there toughest encounter to date as Haverhill are unbeaten so far this season too.
