Coggeshall Town returned to winning ways after a disappointing result midweek away at Wisbech with a hard fought home win against Framlingham.

On a Windy day at West Street pitch conditions were excellent as the home team began the match attacking their opponents with a stiff breeze at their backs. The opening exchanges were even with both teams coming out looking to try and gain an early advantage. Coggeshall looked the more likely to score first as they were having the bulk of the possession but Framlingham looked dangerous on the break. ” The Town” started to dominate the midfield area with Tom Colville and Henri Okosi taking charge with The impressive Josce Syrett looking the most likely to create a opening going forward. As the half went on Coggeshall had one or two efforts on goal with debutant Dan McCullock and Darren Mills going closest but neither could find the net with good efforts from inside the box .The home team broke the deadlock on 30 minutes after some nice build up play involving Danny Scott and Henri Okosi ended up with Dan McCullock crossing to the far post for Josce Syrett to head home from close range to score his first goal for the club. It was a deserved lead as ” The Town ” had been building the pressure on the Framlingham goal for most of the first half.Frustratingly for Coggeshall they didn’t hold on to the lead for long as Framlingham equalised minutes later after a well worked goal was finished neatly to bring the scores back level. Coggeshall responded well though and the game soon reverted back to the earlier pattern with the home team dominating the play and limiting Framlingham to very little going forward. Coggeshall got their noses in front again just before the interval after a cross from out wide from Tom Colville deceived everyone and found its way into the far corner of the away team’s net to give ” The Town ” a 2-1 lead this is how the score stayed as the half-time whistle sounded.

The second half got underway with Coggeshall now kicking into the strong head wind wondering whether a one goal advantage would be enough to get them through the rest of the game.Framlingham came out fast and tried to take the game to Coggeshall but the home side looked in no mood to surrender their lead. Coggeshall saw off the early second half pressure with Liam Thomas and Josh Dalziel defending well at the centre of ” The Town’s ” defence to keep the visitors out, and Matt Walker in goal making one or two good saves. As the half went on Dan McCullock was starting to look more and more dangerous in the Coggeshall frontline as they searched for the all-important third goal. The third goal eventually came around the 70-minute mark and it was McCullock who scored it, he latched on to a nice through ball from Kamal Guthmy to get clear from the Framlingham defenders to round the keeper and score to secure the 3 points for the home team. The third goal gave Coggeshall a bit of breathing space and it allowed them to relax for the final part of the 90 minutes by keeping possession of the ball as Framlingham appeared to accept it was not going to be their day.The final whistle went and it meant Coggeshall had secured another important 3 points in their quest for promotion. It was a hard fought victory but by no means a classic but at this stage of the season the result really is the most important thing. The team are back at West Street next Saturday when Sudbury are the visitors.
