Match Report

Coggeshall Town continued their good start to the season with an excellent performance at Brantham. The home themselves had made an unbeaten start to the season to but were no match for Coggeshall on the night. Coggeshall made one change to the starting lineup with Jamie Shaw returning to the team in place of Tom monk who dropped to the bench. The match got off to quite a slow pace with both in form teams giving each other plenty of respect with neither side really taking the game to their opponent. It wasn’t long though before Coggeshall started to get on top of things with Kamal Guthmy looking a real threat down the left hand side. Guthmy was getting plenty of crosses into the box with both Nnamdi Nwachuku and Jamie Shaw both going close. The chances kept coming with Conor Hubble and Correy Davidson also hitting the target but the Brantham keeper was equal to them to keep the score level. After 15 minutes ” The Town ” went in front after another run and cross from Guthmy caused confusion in the Brantham box leaving Jamie Shaw to hook home from close range. Coggeshall were in full flow now and looked likely to score every time they went forward. The second goal came minutes later after some great build up play involving Correy Davidson and Tom Colville ended up with Nwachuku playing a lovely pass into Shaw who beat his man to fire a excellent shot past the keeper for his and the team’s second of the night. With a two goal lead Coggeshall now looked very comfortable.Leading up to half time Brantham had their best spell but the visitors defence held out well with Luke Wilson in commanding form at the back alongside Sam West and Jacob Partridge. As the half time whistle sounded ” The Town ” were satisfied with their two goal advantage.

The second half got underway with the pattern of play similar to the first half with Coggeshall having the bulk of the possession and looking dangerous with a Brantham offering little at the other end.The visitors came close to adding a third on several occasions with Josce Syrett causing the Brantham defence all sorts of problems, Syrett created several great opportunities but no one could manage to convert them into a goal. The chances kept coming with Jack Curtis also going close from distance with a great effort that just went over the crossbar. Brantham broke away twice and managed to get efforts on the Coggeshall goal but Darren Behcet made two excellent saves to keep the teams two goal lead. The final goal came in the 70 minute after an excellent a ball into the box from Correy Davidson deceived everyone including the Brantham keeper to find its way into the bottom corner of the net. The third goal really dented Brantham who appeared to give up at this point which meant Coggeshall had a comfortable last 20 minutes to see the game out to secure another 3 points.

It was another all round good team performance to keep things moving in the right direction. The team have no midweek action this week and are back at West Street next Saturday when Ipswich Wanderers are the visitors.
