Match Report

Coggeshall Town 1 – 2 Ipswich Town  u23’s
Coggeshall Town continued their pre season programme with a tough game against a strong Ipswich Town team made up from players from their Under 23 and under 18 squads. The West Street pitch was in excellent condition after a lot of work being carried out on it over the summer break. The match kicked of at a fast pace with both teams working hard to get possession of the ball but neither succeeded as it became a scrappy start to the game. Things settled after 15 minutes with both teams having periods of play when they dominated. The young Ipswich team got the better of things as the half went on and started to dominate possession but never breached the Coggeshall backline which was being led very well by captain Luke Wilson alongside another new signing Jacob Partridge. Coggeshall defended well through this period and after a breakaway attack they forced a corner which they took the lead from. Another new signing Conor Hubble delivered a corner to the far post which Wilson headed back to Nnamdi Nwachuku who helped it on towards Josce Syrett who finished well from close range to give ” The Town ” the lead. After the goal the home team started to take the game to their opponents and looked likely to score again with the visitors still not recording an effort on the Coggeshall goal. As half time approached a defensive slip allowed a long ball to get beyond the Coggeshall defence which was finished well to level the scores. This made the scores level 1-1 at the break.

The second half began with Coggeshall coming out of the blocks fast looking to restore their lead. The Thurlow Premier Division new boys started to create chances but could not quite manage to convert any of them. Jamie Shaw had two headed efforts from corners, Hubble went close from a freekick and a shot from distance and Chris Millar missed from close range after some great play out wide from Nwachuku. The closest ” The Town ” came to getting back in front was when Kamal Guthmy cut inside and shot well on the angle but his effort came back off the post. Coggeshall continued to press but could not take any of the many chances they created. The visitors changed their whole team on the hour bringing on a completely new eleven which gave them a huge advantage having a team full of fresh legs for the final part of the match. Coggeshall started to tire as the game entered the later stages which allowed Ipswich to break away and score with a nice move that started in their own half, the goal was harsh on Coggeshall who had much the better of the second half. The remainder of the game was played out quite evenly with Coggeshall still looking the more likely to get the next goal but unfortunately it never came before the final whistle giving the visitors a 2-1 victory.

It was a pleasing display from ” The Town ” against very good opposition who rarely troubled them all afternoon with the team creating plenty of chances which was also good to see. The team are back at West Street Tonight Tuesday 18th when last seasons Isthmian league runners up Maldon and Tiptree are the visitors in which is sure to be another tough test as Coggeshall continue their preparations for the new season.
