Match Report

Coggeshall Town suffered their first defeat of the season at Haverhill Borough on Tuesday night.

The match got underway at a very slow pace with neither team really getting any rhythm in their play, in fact it was a very scrappy start. As the half went on it was the home team who had the better of things and looked the most likely to break the deadlock. After 25 minutes Haverhill were awarded a harsh looking penalty which Matt Walker in ” The Town’s ” goal saved excellently diving away to his right. It was a real let off for Coggeshall who had started the game very poorly. The first half continued but Coggeshall still hadn’t got going and a hard working Haverhill side took the lead as half time approached. Even after going behind the away team still couldn’t get their act together so at the break Haverhill had a one goal advantage.

The second half began with Coggeshall looking slightly brighter and they started to put pressure on the Haverhill backline with Shamido Pedulu and Kane Dobrowlski going close. The visitors continued to press looking for a equaliser but were caught on the break by Haverhill who went through to double there lead after some poor defending from “The Town . Coggeshall still continued to push forward as the match still had the feeling that if they could get a breakthrough they could still get something from the game. As the game entered the final stages Coggeshall were throwing everything forward in search of a goal but just could not convert any of the chances they created. In there quest to try and pull a goal back they left themselves open at the back and Haverhill scored a third with a excellent strike from outside the box to wrap up the game and give the home team the three points.

In truth a 3-0 scoreline was hard on Coggeshall but in reality it was a poor performance all round as the team never got going at all during the 90 mins. The team have the perfect chance Saturday to put things right when they travel to Framlingham Town who have had a very good start to the season.
