Match Report

Coggeshall Town recorded their third victory in a row away from home with a excellent all round display at Wisbech. The home team like Coggeshall had gained promotion to The Eastern Counties League last season and had made a good start to the campaign sitting in sixth position at the start of play. The match kicked off with both teams coming out of the blocks fast trying to gain a early advantage but it was Coggeshall who were having the better of the possession. As the half went on ” The Town ” started to look dangerous with George Cocklin and Matt Southwell running the midfield areas and Nnamdi Nwachuku looking a real threat up top. Chances started to come with Nwachuku going close from long range and only a fine save from the Wisbech keeper denying Darren Mills with a volley from just inside the box. Coggeshall were looking quite comfortable but couldn’t find a way through to break the deadlock and it was Wisbech who nearly took the lead but their player shot over the bar when it looked easier to score. This let off really spurred Coggeshall into action and it wasn’t long after that they took the lead. Some good build up play down the right hand side between Southwell and Danny Scott ended up with Tom Monk beating the last defender to cross into the box where Nwachuku bravely got up to head home between the Wisbech goalkeeper and and a defender. It was a goal of real quality from start to finish and it was just what ” The Town ” deserved after making a good start to the game. After the goal Wisbech came back into the game but Liam Thomas and Josh Dalziel at the heart of the Coggeshall defence stood firm.

At the half time break Coggeshall were satisfied to go in with the one goal advantage. The second half got underway with the away side starting brightly and looking like they wanted to go on and wrap the three points up. As the half went on Wisbech seemed to tire as Coggeshall really started to dominate with some great possession football and Wisbech only had their keeper to thank for keeping them in the game as he made a string of fine saves. On the hour “The Town ” went further ahead with Tom Monk smashing home a great strike from the edge of the box after being set up by Nwachuku this time the keeper had no chance to save as the ball flew into the top corner. With a two goal cushion Coggeshall looked pretty safe now as Wisbech were not offering much as the second goal seemed to take the fight out of them. Coggeshall seemed content to keep possession and play out the remaining minutes but they did go on to score a third with Kieran Adams getting his second goal in two games finishing well after some good work from Monk to provide the opportunity for him to finish from close range. That was how it finished at the final whistle leaving Coggeshall extremely happy with a great 3-0 win away from home against tough opposition.

Every player played their part but Josh Dalziel excelled in his first start for the club and Matt Southwell and George Cocklin run the midfield the whole game with Nnamdi Nwachuku a constant threat to the Wisbech backline all day.The team return to West Street with two home games next week starting with Holland in the league cup on Tuesday night then Diss Town are the visitors on Saturday.

The players and management would like to thank the many supporters who made the long trip to Wisbech, your support is very much appreciated .
