Match Report

Coggeshall Town moved into the quarter final of the league cup with a convincing win over Holland at West Street. Coggeshall went into the game making 9 changes from the weekends win at Wisbech with many of this seasons reserve team players who are going well in the Border League getting a chance to impress. Pitch conditions were excellent and another good crowd was in attendance as the match got underway with both teams starting with a good tempo to their play. The opening exchanges were even but as the half went on it was ” The Town ” who started to get the upper hand with Tom Colville moving the ball around nicely in the midfield area supplying some great balls forward to the dangerous looking Tyrone Scarlett. Out wide for Coggeshall Edilson Cruz was also causing problems for the Holland defenders with some great forward runs. It was one of Cruz’s runs forward that led to the opening goal as he got away from his defender and played a ball into Scarlett just outside the box who was fouled as he was about to shoot on goal. It was Scarlett who picked himself up to take the direct freekick from about 25 yards , he struck the ball sweetly around the wall and it flew into the top corner off the underside of the bar to give the home team the advantage. It wasn’t to long before Coggeshall doubled their lead again through Tyrone Scarlett who was making his first start for the club. The Holland defence failed to clear the ball and it fell to Jordan Palmer who played in Scarlett who fired home from the edge of the box for his and ” The Town’s ” second goal of the night. Number three wasn’t far behind this time Dean Gilder was the provider as he fed Edilson Cruz who cut inside the last defender to blast home past the Holland keeper with a great finish. Holland were left shell shocked after conceding 3 goals in quick succession and as the half time whistle went it was Coggeshall who went into the break well on top.

The second half started much the same way as the first half had finished with Coggeshall dominating all over the pitch and looking very solid at the back with the defence being led well by Liam Thomas. It wasn’t too long before the goals began to flow again as the young Coggeshall team really were playing some lovely football.A cross from Cruz to the far post was nicely converted by Kieran Adams for goal number four and Tyrone Scarlett completed his hatrick on the hour after a mix up in the Holland backline to make the score 5-0. At this point the away team appeared to have given up as ” The Town ” pressed them hard all over the pitch as they created more chances to score.Coggeshall were awarded a penalty after Tom Holdstock went through and was brought down from behind after another great through ball from Colville.Holdstock converted the penalty himself with a great strike giving the keeper no chance. The scoring was completed near the end of the game when Rigers Kabashi scored with a superb strike from distance with a contender for goal of the season to make the final score Coggeshall 7 – 0 Holland.

It was a truly  memorable performance from such a young team and really showed the strength in depth and quality of the squad of players that the management team have assembled. Their was many excellent displays in the night but Tom Colville and Edilson Cruz caught the eye, and Tyrone Scarlett with his hatrick was a handful all night for the Holland defence.

Another tremendous crowd should have gone home happy and will hopefully return Saturday when the team are back in league action with a tough fixture when Diss Town are the visitors.
