The Magpies Bring Sorrow To Coggeshall

Following last weeks impressive display against promotion favourites Bowers and Pitsea, the SeedGrowers travelled to Aldiss Park to take on Dereham Town, who were looking to bounce back from their opening day defeat against Aveley. Graeme Smith named an unchanged side from the previous Saturday, with Nathan Fox the only change to the Coggeshall substitutes. Curtis Haynes-Brown remained unavailable due to injury, whilst Daniel Cunningham served his last game of suspension.

Dereham had the first chance of the game with only four minutes on the clock as the dangerous Daniel Beaumont unleashed a free-kick from around 30 yards, which forced James Bransgrove in to a smart save. Just a few minutes later, George Cocklin received the first and only yellow card of the afternoon, conceding a free-kick on the edge of his own box, with which Beaumont was unable to test Bransgrove with.

The first chance of the afternoon for Coggeshall resulted in the game’s first goal, after just nine minutes. The impressive Nnamdi Nwachuku picked up the ball just inside Derehams half, skipping past two defenders and bending a wonderful, curling effort into the goal from 25 yards out.

Two minutes later the Magpies equalised. A pass from the Dereham midfield spilt the Coggeshall defence in half, Ashley Jarvis was able to latch on to the pass and, one on one with Bransgrove, rolled his effort into the bottom corner.

Following the equaliser, Coggeshall responded in superb fashion. Midfielder, Connor Hubble delivered several dangerous set pieces with the SeedGrowers going close to taking the lead. After twenty three minutes, the Dereham defence were beaten for the second time. A dangerous corner delivered by Hubble from the right hand side to the near post, where captain Luke Wilson guided his header in to the net, giving Coggeshall a deserved lead.

As the game drew closer to the half time interval, Dereham continued to cling on as Coggeshall went close to extending their lead on several occasions. Full-back Tyler Brampton saw his acrobatic effort go wide by a matter of inches and striker Ross Wall was unable to capitalise on a number of crosses into the box.

Half Time: Dereham Town 1-2 Coggeshall Town

Coggeshall started the second half just how Dereham began the first, with Wall testing the hands of Pride in the Dereham goal, who stood tall to make a smart save. Tevan Allen then went close to scoring his first SeedGrowers goal after collecting the ball just inside his own half, he danced past three Dereham midfielders, drove towards the edge of the box, only to see his drilled effort sail just over the crossbar.

After fifty nine minutes, Coggeshall made their first change of the afternoon. Lewis Soraf was introduced to the game, at the expense of Connor Hubble. Nwachuku then created another chance for Wall, however the influential striker again saw his effort saved by Pride in the Dereham goal.

Just a few minutes later, Dereham got themselves back in to the game for the second time of the afternoon. A corner from the left hand side found Dion Frary who’s header took a wicked deflection against Jamie Shaw and somehow managed to creep in past Bransgrove. Graeme Smith then made his second change of the afternoon, with Nathan Fox coming on for his debut replacing Kieran Bishop.

The dangerous Beaumont then gave his side the lead for the first time in the match. After a Coggeshall clearance was headed back past the SeedGrowers defence, Beaumont latched on to the loose ball, released a drilled effort across the face of the goal, past Bransgrove and in to the bottom corner to leave Coggeshall stunned.

Graeme Smith released his last throw of the dice, as Aaron Condon replaced Tyler Brampton resulting in a slight change of formation. It didn’t take long for Condon to make his mark after two efforts in quick succession, one which forced Pride in to an acrobatic save to ensure his side remained in the lead.

As Coggeshall tried desperately to find an equaliser, with minutes left on the clock Dereham extended their lead to cap off a disappointing afternoon for the SeedGrowers. A free kick wide on the left was delivered by Beaumont, which evaded everybody and eventually found the back of the net at the far post for Beaumont’s second of the afternoon.
