Match Report

Coggeshall Town picked up another 3 points in a hard-fought match against Ely City. The visitors proved tough opposition to break down after they took a first-half lead at West Street.Coggeshall had the better of the opening exchanges but fell behind after Ely Scored a break away goal after 30 minutes.Just before the break “ The Town “ got back on level terms through Ross Wall who scored with a deflected shot from 12 yards out after some good work out wide from Tom Monk. The scores stayed level at 1-1 as the half-time whistle sounded.Coggeshall started the second half very well and got on top of their visitors right from the start having the bulk of the possession.Ely were now being pushed back and not really offering much of an attacking threat. It took until the 60th minute though for Coggeshall to get their noses in front and it was Ross Wall again who provided his and the team’s second of the night. After some great link-up play out wide from Nnamdi Nwachuku and Kamal Guthmy, it was Guthmy who delivered a great cross into the box for Wall who powered a header in from close range. It was no more than the home team deserved after they had dominated the second half up till that point. That goal seemed to break Ely’s spirit slightly and goal number 3 soon followed. It was a real cracker from Nwachuku who beat two defenders before cutting inside to power a shot into the top corner from outside the box for a real quality individual goal. With the points now looking safe there was time for Ross Wall to complete his hatrick after he finished neatly from close range after Aaron Cosgrave had done well to deliver a dangerous ball into the box from out wide on the right hand side. This goal completed the scoring and made the final score 4-1 on the night which looked a comfortable scoreline but in truth, the team needed a real all-round together team performance to get the result. The team are straight back into action on Friday night when they make the short trip to Hadleigh.
