Match Report

Coggeshall Town continued their good start to the season with a comprehensive home win against Ipswich Wanderers. Coggeshall started the game with a stiff breeze at their backs as they looked to take the game to Ipswich from the start. The visitors started well though to make the opening exchanges very competitive. As the half progressed it was the home team who started to get the better of things and look more likely to score the first goal. Coggeshall nearly went ahead from a corner but skipper Luke Wilson headed over from 12 yards out. Kamal Guthmy also went close with a left foot shot but the Ipswich keeper was equal to it to keep the scores level. Coggeshall eventually broke down the hardworking Wanderers team after 30 mins after Josce Syrett got on the end of a long ball forward to get past his defender to score into the bottom corner to give ” The Town ” the lead. Coggeshall continued to press and they started to dominate possession all over the pitch with Correy Davidson and Conor Hubble starting to dictate the play. It was Davidson and Hubble who were involved in some excellent build up play which lead to Jamie Shaw finishing well for Coggeshall’s second just before half time. At the break Coggeshall still held a 2 goal advantage with Ipswich offering little at the other end to test Darren Behcet in the Coggeshall goal.

The second half began with Coggeshall coming out the traps very fast with Nnamdi Nwachuku starting to cause the visitors defence all sorts of problems. It was after 5 minutes of the second half that ” The Town ” extended their lead, Nwachuku was the provider for Josce Syrett to score his second of the match with a close range finish. Two minutes later the fourth goal went in, again it was Nwachuku providing the cross after beating a couple of defenders to set up Conor Hubble who scored with a good shot from just inside the box. That goal really dented Ipswich who looked like they had just about had enough at this point. With a four goal lead Coggeshall kept coming forward full of confidence with Kamal Guthmy putting in a great performance for the home team. Coggeshall came close to a fifth after Correy Davidson hit a post with a decent long range effort and Jacob Partridge also went close to scoring his first from the club but his effort went just wide. Goal five came on 70 minutes after Nwachuku was put through after a pass from Tom Colville to beat two defenders before finishing well with a left foot strike. With a five goal cushion Coggeshall seemed content to play out the rest of the match keeping possession of the ball well. There was time for one more goal after some excellent play out wide from Guthmy led to him cutting the ball back where Ricky Loveridge was on hand to finish well for his first goal for the club to wrap up the scoring.

As the final whistle sounded Coggeshall were very satisfied with a convincing 6-0 home win in a game where they had to be patient to break their opponents down on the day. The team have no midweek action this week but are back at West Street next Saturday when unbeaten Felixstowe are the visitors in what looks like being the toughest opposition that the team have faced this season so far.
