Match Report

Coggeshall Town showed the strength in depth and quality of their squad after making several changes to there starting eleven last night in the League Cup at Stowmarket and still produced a excellent performance to progress into the next round.

The game started at a brisk pace but Coggeshall settled very quickly and were soon putting the Stowmarket defence under pressure. Edilson Cruz was looking a real threat down the left flank and was linking up well with Abednego Mensah behind him. It was from the other wing that the opening goal came from though as Danny Scott got away from his marker to supply a great ball into the box for Shamido Pedulu to steer the ball past the Stowmarket keeper to give ” The Town” the lead. Coggeshall continued to press with Stowmarket struggling to get possession of the ball, Scott again was the provider soon after with Cruz heading in at the far post but the referee ruled the goal out for offside which looked a very dubious decision. Coggeshall continued to take the game to the home side as the half went on but did not manage to get the second goal before the half time whistle, so went in at the break with a single goal advantage.

Coggeshall made a change at half time with leading scorer Nnamdi Nwachuku replacing the injured Jon Slater. “The Town” started the second half well and goal number two soon came along after Danny Scott followed in a cross into the box that everyone else had given up on to finish well from close range. From that moment on Coggeshall really took over limiting Stowmarket to the odd break away and the goals started to flow. Shamido Pedulu helped himself to two more completing his hatrick and Substitute Nwachuku also scored twice with two excellent strikes, Pedulu and Nwachuku were proving to be a constant threat to the home team’s backline. Another substitute got in on the goal action with Tom Monk getting on the end of a goalkick from Matt Walker to move forward with the ball and smash a unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net to complete the scoring and give ” The Town ” a fine 7-0 away win.

It was a excellent display on the night against a Stowmarket team who had been unbeaten this season up until this point. There was many good performances in the Coggeshall team but Shamido Pedulu was excellent throughout along with Luke Clark and George Cocklin in midfield and Lee Cullen kept everything tight at the back.

The team are back at West Street in league action on Saturday looking to build again on there fine run of form when Dereham are the visitors. The club would like to again thank the many supporters who travelled to Stowmarket to get behind the team your support is greatly appreciated.
