Coggeshall Town U18s Match Reports
Sunday January 24
Aveley 2 - 0 Coggeshall Town
The Under 18's played their first game in 6 weeks away at Aveley in
the Ingilby Cup on Sunday. Aveley are going well in the EJA North
Essex Division and had beaten Coggeshall's league colleagues Wivenhoe
Town 6-0 the week before.
With Alex King and George Clark dropping out of the squad on Saturday
night the team took a little bit of a reshuffle.
Manager Darren Stone was looking for improved performances from all
after recent disappointing results and duly received a very pleasing
and energetic performance from all.
In the first 10 minutes of the game Coggeshall had a lot of the play
and Rik Ruddick on the right of midfield was causing Aveley's left
back a lot of trouble. The opposition then got going and started to
make in roads. A very tricky run from the Aveley right-winger saw him
beat 3 Coggy defenders as he made his way into the box. From the
sidelines a definite penalty seemed to be the outcome when the winger
appeared to be tripped on the edge of the 6 yard box. But, to the
dismay of Aveley the referee waved play on and Coggy were able to clear.
The pressure began to be put on by Aveley as they grabbed the upper
hand in the game, but fantastic pressure on the ball starting from the
front with Luke Thorndyke and Kyan Gulliver saw Aveleys attacks
swatted by the impressive central defensive partnership of Nathan
Biggs and Michael O’Connell (OC).
Sam Hodgson in the Coggy goal was as impressive as ever, as he made a
great reaction save to deny Aveley.
Long ball after long ball was played by Aveley to try and get their
nippy striker in but each time either OC or Nathan was there to punch
the header away. Adam Morris then started to get to grips with the
right-winger and was impressive at Left Back, a position he does not usually play.
Kyan had a great strike over the bar with a volley that any player
would have been proud of.
Half time: 0-0.
Straight from kick off Aveley looked to attack and held a much higher line.
Ryan Ferrari Collins and Bryn Howard in the middle of the park were
doing a great job at breaking the play up and were getting stuck in to
every challenge.
Luke Hinds and Rik down the right started to string some great moves
together with Luke pushing forward and becoming a real pain for Aveley.
Lewis Biggs at left wing also worked very hard making vital challenges
to slow play down.
After 70 minutes Bryn Howard was replaced with Kieran Ferrari Collins
who kept the same enthusiasm and work rate up for his side.
Coggeshall's best move of the game centred around Kieran as he picked
the ball up in the middle and passing right to Hinds who took the ball
down the right flank before putting a great low ball across the area,
unfortunately but luckily cleared by the defender.
Aaron Yeo then replaced Luke T and slotted in to right back with Luke
H pushing into right midfield and Rik moving to centre and Kieran
going up top. Rik then had a great run before laying the ball to Kyan
who as flagged as offside.
The game then had its first real spell played mostly in the middle of
the park. Then from nowhere in the 92nd minute a long ball was played
over the heads of Coggy's defence as we pushed forward and the Aveley
striker poked in from the edge of the area.
The result was complete when a long throw found the feet of the left
winger and he smashed home from close range in the 95th minute.
Final Score: 2-0.
A real battling committed performance from Coggeshall who can be proud of their performance. All players involved gave there all and got stuck in against a team that played good football. WELL DONE TO ALL THE LADS.
